Ewe

What is your tribe?

How do you pronounce it ?

All my life on the other side of the world

my language .... my beloved language that I cannot speak

my language I should speak

my language I desire to speak

I wish I could explain how my mouth opens and my tongue tries to pronounce these sounds so foreign to me like i am to myself

But no

my mouth does not even open because my tears need a path to follow

back to mother earth

all I can do is hear you from afar

my language my language

my dear language

...and so

the journey continues...

"This artwork was created as a way to understand and express different feelings of sadness, anger, longing, isolation, and a deep yearning for a connection that does not exist in the present. It represents my ongoing journey of bridging the gap between where I stand right now in the Pacific and where my ancestors are from in the Atlantic.

I also want to thank and honour all the other BIPOC artists who have showcased their work of cultural reconnection, and I hope to inspire others the way they have inspired me.

Thank you."
